Bicentennial Burger Week 2022

Date: June 2022

Approximately 200 years ago, the settlers of the area west of the Big Sandy and Tug Rivers established the town of Louisa, Kentucky… and those early settlers are surely kicking themselves for dying too soon and missing out on Louisa’s first-ever Bicentennial Burger Week!

Lawrence County Tourism Chairman Les Queen expressed his excitement when reached for comment saying, “We’ve been wanting to do this for years, but we had to wait until the 200th anniversary of Louisa’s founding to have Bicentennial Burger Week.”

The citizens of Louisa will be able to go to non-chain restaurants and consume custom-curated burgers featuring the personal style of each individual establishment. Patrons will have the chance to vote with the winner being announced during the Fourth of July Parade with prize drawings at (we assume) the Louisa Main Stage afterwards.

Giovanni’s new owners released a statement about being left out of the Burger Week festivities, “Louisa has lost out on the opportunity to try what would have been a one-of-a-kind premium Italian burger, which we named the Are You Talkin’ to Peppero-Me Burger. It would have been sliced into squares as well instead of the traditional two halves.”

Several of Louisa’s old restaurants are coming out of retirement and bankruptcy to enter the contest and win the Grand Prize. Whistlestop Café will be featuring their AEP Burger with angus, egg, and pork. Hinkle’s will feature their Fred M. Venison Burger made with real cooks named Fred. Rip’s Restaurant will feature their Show Me the Honey BBQ Burger and will be available for pick up via the new and improved drive-thru at their location. Rio Verde, Mom’s Place, and Jim’s Restaurant are collaborating on a burger they call the How Stella Moore Got Her Groove Back Burger that comes well-done and with a side of redemption. Hamburger Inn elected not to enter this contest, citing they felt they had an unfair advantage.

On a serious note: We here at the BS Lazer are always happy to support local tourism and businesses in whatever way we can! Please go support our amazing restaurants and their workers! I have so many memories of going with my family to eat in restaurants that are no longer around, and if I could go eat at Nell’s, or Rio Verde, or any of the ones I listed above just one more time, I would do so in a heartbeat.

*Full Disclosure: We pulled these photos off of the Lawrence County Tourism Commission’s Facebook page. So credit where credit is due! Obviously, we prefer not to promote things on Facebook, but go check out their page. We also have a link to their actual website on the footer of every BSLazer page. The Lawrence County Tourism Commission does so much to help promote the county, our community, and its businesses. We want to thank them for all their hard work! It does not go unnoticed or unappreciated!

Vote for your favorite burger and we will announce the BSLazer’s Favorite Burger of Lawrence County’s Bicentennial Burger Week once the competition is over.
