CURRENT LCHS SEASON SCHEDULES & RESULTS:
Reigning Regional Champion Lawrence County Soccer Team begs fans to learn the rules
As the high school sports dead-period comes to an end, teams have began practicing and preparing for the upcoming fall and winter sports seasons. The Lawrence County Boy’s Soccer team are fresh off their first Regional Championship and looking to repeat. After hosting the first round of the state tournament last season, which saw an outpouring of support and their largest fan turnout, the team has one major plea for the upcoming season: they want fans to learn the rules!
Head Coach John Scotsman was quoted as saying, “We had a fantastic team that put on an absolute clinic every week, but it was clear that our fans didn’t have a clue what the rules were. We’ve had fans thrown out for yelling at the officials, and we were about to mercy rule our opponents.”
Lawrence County Girl’s Soccer Coach Keith Hebb was also exasperated, “Our girls have won 5 Regional Titles and advanced to at least the second round of State several times. We are one of the powerhouses in soccer for the region, but no one around here knows the rules.”
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, where it is better known as “football.” This popularity is probably due to it being the cheapest sport to play, as all it costs is a ball. The lack of popularity of soccer in America is probably due to the absence of time-outs or television breaks at the professional level, where corporations produce revenue by making viewer’s eyes bleed with needless commercials.
Lawrence County Boys Soccer will enter the season as one of the favorites to win Region and return to the State Tournament, despite losing several talented players last year. Lawrence County Girls Soccer is always a threat to win the region, having won it 5 times in their 13 year existence.
Time-Out From Comedy:
Seriously, go check out the soccer teams. They are so fun to watch! Also, even though we like to make fun of the fiscal court and county government, they have done a great job with the new youth soccer fields! Soccer is on the rise around the area and in the United States. Those running the youth program in Lawrence County are doing a great job of developing young talent and giving our kids another fun sport to play. Seriously, Lawrence County is on track to become the soccer powerhouse of the region for both the boys and girls teams, so go give them your support. Go DAWGS!
